The SCOPH EXCHANGE PROJECT- The Cameroun Apostolic-The Banga Bakundu Project

The Cameroon Apostolic Hospital Project , is a SCOPH Exchange project that is coordinated by medical students In IFMSA The Netherlands and the Apostolic Hospital located in Banga Bakundu Community in Cameroon.


Brief Description Of The Project

This project is also called the" Give Milk Stop Aids" project and it is a specialized HIV and AIDS hospital which caters for the need of HIV infected mother and their children, it provides good exposure for those who are interested in working in the areas of HIV and AIDS. it provides fantastic exposure for volunteer work in this area, and donations towards the work will also be very appreciated.

Also you get to understand the care and management giving to HIV infected Children  and their mothers,The community has about 20,000 inhabitants, which all use this hospital facility as well.


Project Details
The project is an initiative of the foundation Give Milk, Stop Aids, which is also the foundation which makes this project possible.
The student will be working in the Apostolic Hospital, which has 80 beds that are almost continuously filled. There are 2 or 3 local doctors who keep the hospital going. The student will have the opportunity to get involved in many different specialism’s.
The student will also have the opportunity to get involved with the foundation Give Milk, Stop Aids. This foundation cares for children of HIV-positive mothers. Especially to prevent the transfer of HIV from mother to child. The employees offer support, provide information and give out bottle feed and medicine. They follow the HIV-status, growth and development of the child and take care of the child if necessary.

The student needs to have at least one year of clinical experience. And besides the student needs to know about the situation in developing countries.  

Detailed Project Description, Mission and Goals of the Project * What do participants exactly have to do, what are the working hours, what is the project aiming for, etc.
The work in the Apolostic Hospital will be mostly clinical. This tropical hospital knows different wards for children, women (obstetrics, surgery and remaining) and men (surgery and remaining). You will be working with the doctors of the hospital and will be able to get acknowledged with the different wards. Students who are nearing the end of the internships might be allowed to run a ward on their own.
Students working with the Give Milk, Stop Aids project will visit the children of HIV-positive mothers joined by a nurse. The work you will mostly consist of gathering anamnesis’, physical examinations and providing information about HIV and aids.
The student is responsible for stating with tasks he/she wants and can or can’t perform.
At the end of the project the student will lecture the hospital staff about a relevant subject.
